Dear DOMIM-aLike friends and colleagues,

"There is a crack in everything
That’s how the light gets in..."

Leonard Cohen

As the month of Kislev begins, we depart from an intense and volatile Mar-Cheshvan - it began with the exciting celebrations of Diaspora-Israel Day around the world, continued with emotional elections in the United States, and ended in two separate but equally startling events in Israel - hateful graffiti and death threats in IMPJ's Kehillat Ra'anan, and a wave of fires around the state, that left many people - including some of our congregants, without a roof over their heads.

Following these unsettling events, we witness that through the painful cracks, light stars to get in - as Leonard Cohen who passed away this month taught us.
Many people and organizations in Israel, including the IMPJ headquarter office and congregations, have opened their homes and hearts to help those whose homes were burnt and show their appreciation to the fire-fighters.
Friends from all around the world have written to us, expressing their support and solidarity.

We continue believing that, as Rabbi Kook say, these acts of light and love indeed push away the darkness.

Chodesh Tov,
Yours –
Rabbi Nir Barkin

Interfaith gathering around
the holidays of light

As we move into winter, the hours of daylight get shorter. In order to prevent darkness penetrating the human skin and filling the human soul, religious around the world have created “festivals of light.”

During December, DOMIM-aLike invite you to take part in InLight: encounters for discussion, study, and activity between Muslims, Christians, and Jews focusing on the theme of the Festivals of Light.

:Meet Israeli Reform Rabbis

Rabbi Yael Karrie
Rabbi Yael Karrie, who was ordained this very month in HUC-JIR Jerusalem, initiated project InLight - interfaith meeting and activity, following the alienation between Jews and Arabs after Operation 'Protective Edge' in the Gaza Strip - only a few miles away from her home and community.

"I believe that the best way to fight darkness is to increase light ...                 I encourage you to make room for new people whose light you have discovered in the darkness."

Israeli Citizens are Embracing the Victims of the Fire
____________...
Over 70,000 people were evacuated during the fire wave across Israel, and some 500 houses were burnt. Many Israelis - Jews and Arabs - opened their homes, inviting those evacuated to spend the night after the fire.

In Haifa, who suffered the greatest damage, IMPJ congregations acted to help those in need; Leo-Baeck Education Center gathered hundreds of food items, cloths and appliances within hours. Congregation Or Hadash on the Carmel was just a few meters  from the flames, and opened it's gates as an aid center.
Keren B'Kavod - the IMPJ Fund for Humanitarian Assistance and Social Responsibility - is coordinating those efforts of welfare support and donation.

In the following week, dozens of youth from the different youth movements in Ra'anana met to talk about Jewish pluralism.

Ra'anan also received a visit of solidarity from Mr. Nathan Sharansky, the Chairman of the Executive of the Jewish Agency.
