Dear Colleague,
All of us have during the last weeks been struck by the news and pictures on the refugee crisis and the humanitarian crisis that accompanies it.
Such a crisis always induces its own ethical and moral dilemmas, on the broader scale of national and international political scenes and their decision makers, but also on the smaller scale of everyday life, when we are confronted with individual stories and cases rather than "the" refugee problem.
The ISN has always had a strong heart for those endangered and in need. It is our mission to defend the rights of patients with chronic or acute kidney disease and those who care for them. It is currently however unknown if and to what extent the refugee crisis impacts on patients with chronic kidney disease, need for dialysis, or acute injury. This lack of knowledge makes it difficult, if not impossible, to stand up for those patients in a meaningful and effective way.
We would also be interested to know the reactions of the nephrology community when confronted with individual patients in face to face encounters, and the ethical, moral, psychological and logistical problems they might create.
Therefore, we would like you to help us to collect this information by completing the accompanying questionnaire in SurveyMonkey®. The survey is short and takes only 5 minutes to complete, but will provide us indispensable information we need to further advocate the rights of our patients.
