SUMMER 2021
We are delighted to share with you another fruitful year of research and collaboration at the IIAS. Despite multiple lockdowns and ongoing restrictions, we were fortunate to continue our Research Group activities and hold numerous interesting and enriching events, both virtually and in person.
RESEARCH GROUPS
This year, the IIAS hosted four Research Groups:

Cultural Brokerage in Pre-modern Islam. Organized by Uriel Simonsohn (University of Haifa) and Luke Yarbrough (UCLA)
September 1, 2020 - June 30, 2021

Behavioral Ethics Meets Corporate Governance: Paradigm Shift? Organized by Adi Libson (Bar-Ilan University)
September 1, 2020 - June 30, 2021

Triangulating Towards Socrates: The Socratic Circle and its Aftermath. Organized by Gabriel Danzig (Bar-Ilan University) and James Redfield (University of Chicago)
October 12, 2020 - February 11, 2021

Animals and Human Society in the Sinitic World. Organized by Gideon Shelach Lavi (The Hebrew University of Jerusalem) and Nir Avieli (Ben-Gurion University of the Negev)
March 1, 2021 - July 31, 2021

A number of fellows were able to join us in person at the IIAS, and each Research Group held virtual seminars to enable the fellows from abroad to participate as well.

Every two weeks, we held a Fellows Forum in a virtual format for all IIAS fellows. In each session, three fellows had the opportunity to introduce themselves and their research, and this was a fantastic way for the fellows across the world to connect, despite their physical distance.

On March 18-19, the fellows of Cultural Brokerage in Pre-modern Islam and Animals and Human Society in the Sinitic World went on a Negev fieldtrip. The trip included visits to educational sites of camels, horses and goats, Har Michya petroglyph park, the ancient city of Shivta, and an overnight stay in Bedouin hospitality.

We ended the year with a trip for IIAS fellows and staff to Caesarea. The tour was led by renowned historian Shaya Gafni, whose expert knowledge of the site enriched our experience of the ruins of the Herodian city.
ARTIST IN RESIDENCE

This year's Artist in Residence at the IIAS is Agi Mishol, one of Israel's most prominent and popular poets, and the author of 16 volumes of poetry.

On February 22, Agi led a poetry workshop for a select group of literature students from universities across Israel. The workshop provided a space for the students to listen, to be heard, to develop their writing skills, and for the rare opportunity to receive constructive feedback from Agi.
On June 23, we launched an art exhibition entitled 'For the Brain is a Lump of Poison' at the IIAS of artwork created by Yoav Weinfeld, and inspired by Agi’s poetry. The exhibition will run for 6-12 months. Click here for more details.
