Here we are together, bound together on an adventure to explore UltraPerformance through life experiences and strong messages. 2020 has been an absolute shock on so many levels, it has also allowed us to question ourselves deeply and even sometimes make a break from our lives.

On a personal level, this crisis has allowed me to redefine my involvement in the industry, to establish my philosophy of UltraPerformance through Human Empowerment and launch the extraordinary ZEPHIR Project, an out of this world project chasing the absolute sailing speed record: "Humaneness & Innovation for Records".

DEAD END OF PURE PERFORMANCE

The loss of reference points and chaos

In our organizations, indicators are imposed on everyone. Whether they are technical, financial, legal, measuring quality, costs, deadlines or yield...

Spreadsheets and progress reports have become the alpha and omega of any project manager. Everything has to be under control and any risk has to be reduced to a minimum, or even completely eliminated.

Emotions and intuition are totally eradicated from the process and when events do not follow the plans, chaos follow. The manager is alone, his partners and his teams have no reference points, then emotions take over.

This video excerpt was taken when we had to cancel a mountain biking world record attempt with Eric Barone, which had become inevitable.

A HUMAN POSTULATE

Human at the center of all priorities

In addition to solving their pre-Covid-19 bottlenecks, our organizations will have to produce better, in an increasingly demanding environment, for the benefit of the greatest number and using far fewer resources.

Industry, business, commerce, education and institutions are more than ever concerned.

However, this tour de force is accessible by starting from a new premise. Without disrupting our organizations, a new path to explore is making the development of each person THE PRIORITY. We can even make it an indicator!

ZEPHIR PROJECT

From the vision to the first prototypes

Technological breakthroughs are the foundation of the ZEPHIR project. To reach our objectives, with Antoine Albeau and our team of experts, we have exploited to the maximum the measurements and visualizations of 4 days of wind tunnel tests in December 2020 (IAT-CNAM near Paris and Aero Concept Engineering, former Prost Grand Prix wind tunnel in Magny-Cours).

It's only the beginning but Antoine's "speedsuit" is taking shape and the first prototype sails arrived from Hawaii this week. The onboard measurement chain is being integrated into the windfoil board of the last record. Tests on the water as early as June 2021!

Finding meaning in the wake of the crisis

In this so-called post-crisis stage, we are witnessing a deep crisis of the ''meaning''. The physical distancing has also been social, marking even more the lack of human connection in our organizations.

Without changing our operating rules, it is possible to give meaning to individual and collective action.

To do this, you need to put into gear the necessary energy to create the space and time to reflect with your employees on your operating values, and to rediscover the deep meaning of your actions.

MY CRUSH

Thomas Pesquet, a captain among the stars

Getting a bit closer to the stars to touch the stars, thanks to those people who inspire us and whom we can sometimes help in their quest.

I dreamed about it as a child, and still do. Thomas has left again for the ISS.

Then if all goes well, my fellow student in the US, Jeanette Epps -who has since become a NASA astronaut- will be next in a few month time. Jeanette would then be the first African-American woman on a mission aboard the ISS. All of this moves me deeply, like a new little miracle unfolding under our eyes.
