Passover 2021 - returning to normalcy:

Covid-19, a real challenge to our liberty, is almost behind us. Passover, known as the festival of freedom, symbolizes this year the end of lockdowns and restrictions, and the return of normalcy to our everyday life. The scoop of this newsletter is that by the end of Passover, we will greet our students on campus!

Frankly, most of all, I miss our students. I miss the energy that they bring; I miss their loud debates after thought provoking lectures; I miss their frantic searches for classrooms and the wide eyed new students who feel lost and confused.

I am delighted to invite you to watch an interview with our Dean of Law School, read about our evolving International Education Unit, learn about our superb Department of Nursing and receive updates on the projects we run and the programs we offer on campus.

On behalf of the entire ZAC community, I wish you and yours a very happy, healthy and safe Passover.

Dr. Amnon Leshem
Vice President of Development

On February 23 we held a Zoom event titled "COVID in Israel: The Challenges and Opportunities of a Diverse Nation".

The event was moderated by a great friend of the College, Mr. Michael Traison, Esq., based in Israel and Chicago, partner at Cullen and Dykman LLP. and the EVP of the American Association of Jewish Lawyers and Jurists. The event was co-sponsored by the America-Israel Economic Forum.

During the event, each of ZAC's three distinguished academic faculty members - Prof. Izhar Ben Shlomo, Dr. Janet Cohen and Dr. Asaf Harduf, presented one aspect of Israeli society's battle with COVID-19 pandemic - legal, societal and medical.

We wish to thank Mr. Traison for his ongoing and inspiring support; Mr. Michael R. Schmitt, Executive Director of the America-Israel Chamber of Commerce, Chicago; our representatives in the U.S., Mr. Avrum Lapin and Ms. Jill Dalin; our faculty members for their important research and the many participants, who demonstrated their interest in Israeli society and the College.

In order to expand and enhance the international learning experience of our students, and to increase ZAC's exposure to students worldwide, ZAC has established its International Education Unit, led by Dr. Nir Atmor.

The Unit is offering advanced international courses in English in various subjects designed for both local and international students.

In the spring semester 2020, we offered 4 courses in the School of Law, the Department of Social Work and the Department of Interdisciplinary Studies.

ZAC is currently collaborating with leading international academic institutions, among them John Wesley College (Hungary); Shantou University (China); HAWK University (Germany) and Bochum University (Germany).

The cooperation with Bochum University is a result of being awarded the prestigious Erasmus+ Project Grant to support both students and academic staff during 2020 – 2023.

In the upcoming summer semester of 2021, we offer a wide selection of fascinating and enriching courses, which will be taught both by the leading academic faculty members of ZAC and our collaborative international academic institutions.

For further details, information and updated on our summer academic programs, we invite you to check the International Education Unit's page on ZAC's website

During the past semester, despite the challenges posed by COVID, our Department of Nursing continued its academic and research activities to educate the next generation of nurses in Israel.

The faculty continued to teach of all the courses in the undergraduate and graduate programs, including clinical courses taught by nurses, physicians, and other medical professionals.
  • All 2020 graduates of the department took the government exam last September and passed it successfully (100% success rate). Most of the graduates are employed today in the healthcare system in Israel and contribute the efforts to face the challenges of the pandemic.
  • The 450 students of the Department of Nursing participated in hands-on clinical training in hospitals and in the community, including hands-on training in intensive care and Corona wards.
  • The faculty continued its ongoing research activities, including planning and conducting interesting new research projects concerning the attitudes and behaviors of people in the shadow of the pandemic as well as attitudes towards the vaccine. Some of the studies were presented at local online conferences.
Finally, the completion of the new home of the department of nursing, part of the Legacy Center for Healthcare Education and Simulation is nearing. The department will move to a state of the art facility unlike any in Israel.

COVID-19 pandemic has been posing a considerable challenge for many of our students. On the one hand, our students' earnings channels have been blocked by repeated lockdowns.

On the other hand, expenses, including tuition and rent, continued as usual. Parental support, in many cases, has become complicated as many of the families in the region have run into a significant financial crisis.

More than 90% of the College’s students hail from the northern periphery, and 90% are first generation college students, coming from large families who cannot withstand the financial burden, especially during a global crisis.

Along with the support that the College offers to all students - scholarships and living grants - we invite you to adopt a student, whose financial condition may force him/her to undone their program, by that forfeiting their plans to grow and develop.

Any donation will be funneled in full to assists students who are in real financial distress. This support holds the power to change our students' life path financially and professionally alike.

You may donate to the "Adopt a Student" campaign through the College's website and receive a receipt for tax purposes.
