September 2021

Dear friends and colleagues,

September has begun and a new monthly newsletter is launched.
While the situation in Australia and Israel continues to be challenging with Covid taking an enormous toll on both countries, as it is with many others, it seems that the two countries are moving in the right direction.

Israel, which right from the start at the beginning of 2020 launched a rigorous vaccination campaign, has since been in the forefront of the race to get everyone vaccinated. Israel was quick to reach the desired 70-80% double jabs rates, and last month launched a third, booster vaccine round. A month on now, and it seems that the move is working as the degree of infections and more seriously the levels of those succumbing to serious illness - is on the decline.

Australia and particularly residents of Sydney and NSW are catching up to reach the 70-80% vaccination rate milestone, later the year, which will enable the end of lockdowns as a means and a strategy aimed at stopping the spread of the virus. Thus, paving the way for the economy to be opened and for economic activity to catch up.

With the backdrop of the global pandemic, the past month has captured the attention of the world as the Tokyo Olympic Games took place after been delayed by a year due to Covid. The Tokyo games has certainly been the most successful ones for Both Aussie’s and Israelis winning for their countries and collecting medals of all colors while breaking personal records, and making their countries excited and proud.

Next week marks the beginning of the new Jewish year of 5782 (Rosh Hashanah, as it is called in Hebrew), it is a sign and a symbol of new beginnings and fresh starts.
While we all strive to start afresh, achieve personal goals and visit places we have been longing to see (many that have been postponed due to Covid), that we strongly believe and wish everyone that the coming year, will be very different than the one ending and a fresh new promising start, awaits us all sooner then we think.
With this, we wish you all a happy and prosperous New Year, Shana Tova from team at the Israel Trade Commission!

The dust has now settled on the 2020 Tokyo Olympics as the Olympic torch is extinguished and passed on to Paris for 2024. I can’t help but note a few observations – the 2020 Olympics was held in 2021 but not rebranded as such, like COVID-19, which really took effect during 2020 but the name, much like a brand – remained.
