Israel - Australia Newsletter

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

As we approach the end of this year, we are happy to witness a growing interest from both Australia and Israel to engage more in business activities. Some of these activities happened in Israel in various occasions and events - such as The Retail Innovation Club Annual Event 2022 and FoodTech IL 2022.

Although the year is not over, yes, we can cautiously say that 2022 will be marked as the “back to normal” year after Covid-19 pandemic. In that sense, we are particularly happy that we have returned to physical activity, meeting each other in person and participating in face to face business initiatives.

As we finalise our workplan for 2023, we see tremendous rebound in business events, trade shows and delegations, both in Israel and overseas. In the coming year we hope to expand the current excellent economic relationships between the two countries but also to engage in new and exciting sectors. One of them is the Space-Tech Sector, in which we have witnessed a tremendous growth over the last few years with heavy investments in technological development. The Second Sector is FoodTech, which at the moment is Israel’s fastest growing technological sector - ranked second in the world in the number of cultivated-meat companies after the United States and third in the number of investors in the alternative protein field.

We welcome all of you who wish to engage with some amazing companies and technologies to contact us, and our dedicated team will be at your service to connect you with the best Israeli Tech out there.

We are your connection to Israeli innovation.

 - Ohad Blumberg and the team at the Israel Trade Commission in Australia.
We are hiring! Could you be our next Trade Officer?

Rio Tinto Challenge

Capture and re-use energy from our rail wagon fleet - Rio Tinto public challenge.

"We recognise that we have significant scope 1 and 2 emissions and know we must address this with urgency to be part of the solution the world is looking for.

We have committed to a 50% reduction in our Scope 1 and 2 CO2 emissions by 2030, and net zero carbon emissions by 2050.

New technologies will be essential to helping us decarbonise our operations. One way we plan to reduce our emissions is by transitioning our diesel locomotives to battery electric locomotives.

Energy recovery and re-use is possible via regenerative braking on the battery electric locomotives, however, regenerative braking alone does not provide enough energy to drive the trains without additional charging.

We’re seeking emerging technologies that will capture energy from our wagon fleet, eliminating the need for charging infrastructure and delivering capital savings opportunities.

If you have a solution that could help support our efforts to decarbonise our rail network, please submit your idea."
