Israel - Australia Newsletter
January - February 2021
Dear Friends,

A new year, with hopefully, new beginnings.

Many things have been said and hoped for 2021, how much we look to this new year that will be different from the last and will bring us closer to our long-anticipated normal.

The past year has been critical to the Israeli economy and industry. It has taken an enormous effect on the countries growth and economic development. Israel has had three consecutive lockdowns (the last one still in place) that have hit the economy quite badly- resulting in scores of retail and hospitality businesses forced to shut down, for many, never to recover.

On the other side, Israel's primary economic growth engine, its technology and innovation sectors,  have also been impacted. Needing to shift work arrangements to be from home, while still being able to connect and compete on a global stage. In addition, there is still the need to deal with all of the other ramifications of Covid - lockdowns, social restrictions, inability to travel. This has certainly left scars.

With this being the case, everyone has changed the way they interact with others and conduct business. This is certainly the case for us here at the Israel trade Commission, our office is not immune to the changes underway, as described in an article published by Ctech (which you can view on our website).

In addition to our new online practices, we have also incorporated posts on Israeli Industry 4.0 technologies and how they aid the global economy to adapt to Covid -19, as well as reference the ongoing challenges that emerge from cyber threats and crimes, which have soared in the past year due to the volume and bandwidth of users connecting online via Zoom and other such platforms.

While 2021 started where 2020 ended, with expectations and anticipations for a better tomorrow, at least in Israel a state-wide national vaccination campaign roll-out is undergoing with to-date 1/3 of the population that has been immunized. Australia will soon be starting its own campaign next month which brings about hopes that sooner than we think, bubbles will grow to official routes and by the end of the year, we will be stronger and definitely closer to going back to normal.

Wishing everyone a successful and prosperous year ahead.

The team at the Israel Trade Commission,
Rochelle, Jeremy, and Shai
