New publication: women in Zionism

___________11
Following the success of 'From India unto Ethiopia' on Zionism in Eastern Jewish communities, we are pleased to announce the publication of a new volume of the Zionist Beit Midrash's 'Zman' series which seeks to shed light on women active in a range of fields during the Zionist revival. The texts were written by both famous and lesser-known women from different backgrounds who described their love of and endeavor for the Land of Israel.

The first section is devoted to aliya and absorption and includes texts written by immigrants to Israel such as Hannah Senesh, and to teachers like Henrietta Szold who contended with the challenges of immigration absorption.

The second section examines women's participation in the battle for independence and begins with the will of Sarah Aaronsohn of the famous NILI organization, written after her capture by the Turks.

Sections 3 and 4 focus on the contribution of women in a variety of fields in Israel: agriculture, song, education, law and others.

Section 5 returns to the great struggles of Israeli women for equal opportunity throughout the generations, especially as part of the freedom of occupation they enjoyed on the kibbutzim.

Finally, Section 6 includes references of Israeli artists to women's contributions to the Israeli world of culture in Israel.

Women MKs from across the political spectrum reviewed the booklet and explained why it is so important in a series of videos.

 The Institute's Activities

Biglal HaRuach

The academic year is drawing to a close and the guides at 'Biglal HaRuach' are at the high-point of their activity with a series of events in which pupils adopt one of the values of the IDF spirit.

The ORT Schools Network has held various formats of activities at 3 schools over the past month.

In Ashdod, the pupils conducted discussions with their classmates on different moral dilemmas and were fortunate to hear a talk given by Tzur Goldin, brother of Hadar Z"L. Tzur told of Hadar and his attributes as well as the educational philosophy he adopted with his soldiers: valor and humility.

In Oranit, the pupils commemorated Yom HaZikaron at school by conveying the messages they learned during the year to the school's younger pupils. It was moving to witness the pupils' enthusiasm and the attention and interest they aroused among the junior pupils.

Mor, our guide at the Beit HaArava High School in Jerusalem, brought his pupils to Mt. Herzl where each of them shared a text about the life of a fallen soldier who, in his eyes, represents the spirit of the IDF. Among others, the pupils studied the life and death of Yoni Netanyahu, Michael Levin, Roi Klein and Immanuel Moreno.

Crossings

___________11
Following the outbreak of last month's unrest, 'Blue and White Human Rights' issued a public statement against B'tselem's call for IDF soldiers to refuse orders. The objective of our statement is to encourage combat soldiers located on the Gaza Strip border to document and publish any human rights violations by the Hamas to which they are witness. We are therefore pleased to see that a significant number of film clips clearly proving the cynical use of children as human shields have been publicized.

Our geopolitical tours initiative continues to develop and increase its exposure among new groups ahead of the upcoming academic year. At the same time, the general public continues to enjoy the current tours: as part of the international Jane's walks initiative on May 24, a further tour will be conducted for all those interested in understanding the Eastern section of the city beyond the shuk and the Western Wall. During the tour, we will discuss the relations between the city's different populations and processes of integration during recent years.
