February Newsletter 2022
Dear Alumni and Friends,

I hope you are all doing well! We have some exciting updates and news to share with you. As many of you may already know me from my role as the Director of Recruitment and Marketing for North America for Reichman University (IDC Herzliya), I am excited to announce that I have taken on an additional role of Director of US Alumni Affairs and Relations. As an alumna myself, I am excited and passionate about this new role and the responsibilities that come along with it. For those who do not know me, I am a Reichman University (IDC Herzliya) alumna originally from Seattle, Washington. I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Government with a specialization in International Relations and Counterterrorism. I graduated in 2011 and upon completion of my studies, I enlisted in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). I was able to apply my studies and education earned at Reichman University to serve the State of Israel. I served for two years in the Foreign Relations Unit of the Ground Forces as a Lone Soldier and have other extensive experience in the realm of Israel, education, and advocacy.

I along with my team are excited to share some new initiatives and changes we are making to help engage our alumni network in the United States. We are looking at more ways to have you more involved and help create a community abroad that offers you various resources that may be of interest to you. Please enjoy the first monthly US Alumni Newsletter we plan to implement each month with some useful news, updates, career assistance, upcoming events, and alumni news.

I look forward to working with you!
Best Regards,

Nir Bar Dea, originally from Even Yehuda, outside of Netanya, Israel, holds an MBA from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School and studied finance at IDC Herzliya, now Reichman University. In 2020, he was named in Fortune’s “40 Under 40 in Finance,” owing to his quick response to the coronavirus pandemic when he swiftly relocated the firm’s investment engine office outdoors so that employees could safely work without losing the proximity of an in-person office.

The firm named deputy C.E.O. Nir Bar Dea and a board member, Mark Bertolini, to succeed David McCormick in light of Mr. McCormick’s political aspirations.

Bridgewater, the world’s biggest hedge fund, named two new chief executives on Monday after David McCormick, the current chief, told employees he would step down to consider a run for the U.S. Senate.

Nir Bar Dea, the deputy chief executive of Bridgewater, and Mark Bertolini, a Bridgewater board member and former chief executive of Aetna, will now lead the hedge fund jointly.
Mr. Bar Dea, 40, is relatively unknown in the investing world. He joined the Westport, Conn., firm in 2015 and was elevated to the No. 2 role last February as part of a broader leadership shake-up. A former major in the Israeli military, he has been an architect of pandemic planning for Bridgewater, which employs around 1,500 people and manages roughly $150 billion for pensions, sovereign wealth funds and other big investors.

Bachelors Degree Business Administration

My name is Lior and I studied Business Administration in the International School at  IDC between 2005 to 2008. I grew up in Kfar-Hess, Israel, and I’m married to Shiri and father to sweet Becky who is 1.5 years old.

In the past years, my family and I have been dealing with my chronic kidney disease.
While we did everything to slow the progression of the disease, we knew that one day I will need a kidney transplant.

Unfortunately, the condition of my kidneys recently deteriorated to a point where a transplant is needed, and we decided it’s time to share our need with a wider group.
This year I’m supposed to celebrate my 40th birthday and hope to fulfill my dream since I was in school - open my own business, expand my family, succeed and contribute back to society. The best gift I could ever get would be a kidney, which will enable all of these goals.
We have been living in New York for the past 11 years, and connected with a local organization called “Renewal”, which helps us in the process of finding the right donor. They are also tasked with all of the communication aspects and can answer any questions about the process, what’s covered, etc.
To those who are interested in donating, the communication is done directly with “Renewal”, who will ask you to answer a brief questionnaire, and then ship a self-test kit for you to return to them. The kit can be sent anywhere in the world. If you’d like to be tested, please e-mail them at R24429@RENEWAL.ORG

We’ll also be grateful for any and all shares of our story on social media, so it could reach as many potential donors as possible.

Thank you!
