Prof. Uriel Reichman Concludes his term as
President of Reichman University
Prof. Uriel Reichman, President and Founder of Reichman University (IDC Herzliya), has announced that, effective immediately, he is concluding his term as president. This announcement comes in the wake of the Council for Higher Education’s official recognition of the institution as a university about two weeks ago, and the change of its name from IDC Herzliya to Reichman University.

Founder & President of Reichman University
(IDC Herzliya)
Prof. Reichman summed up his remarks by saying, “IDC Herzliya was established as a Zionist university, hence our educational outlook, which is expressed in the words ‘freedom and responsibility.’ We teach our students to go out into the world with faith in themselves and their friends. To be entrepreneurs and not accept the status quo if they don’t like it. To live a life of meaning and personal fulfillment of their aspirations, while at the same time caring first and foremost for those who cannot help themselves. And to be willing to protect, physically and morally, the state and its values. This is the foundation of principles on which we built our university, and the 35,000 graduates of IDC Herzliya carry these values with them.”

During his speech, Prof. Reichman announced that with the end of his term, he will be replaced by Reichman University Provost Prof. Rafi Melnick until a new president is elected. Prof. Reichman will continue his involvement with the university and its growth in the role of chairman of the Board of Directors, an unpaid position.

Reichman University Welcomes the New Deans
With the opening of the 2021-2022 school year at Reichman University, ceremonies marking the change of dean were held in the schools of law, computer science, business administration, entrepreneurship, and psychology. Some of the schools on campus marked a change of dean. Prof. Uriel Reichman, who recently completed his term as president of Reichman University and currently serves as chairman of the board, thanked the outgoing deans and wished the incoming deans success.

Prof. Reichman: “This week we mark a historic moment – for the first time we are opening the new academic year as an officially recognized university. This is also an appropriate moment to recognize the important contribution of the deans to the various schools and their students. We are celebrating the academy of the future here – an academy that sees the student, sees the person. And helps society not only through research but also by training people to forge ahead with a Zionist mission. I wish great success to the outgoing and incoming deans and wish us all a fruitful and healthful school year.”

Reichman University Kicks off the School Year
Reichman University opened the 2021-2022 school year this Sunday with its traditional orientation week for new students. This year, approximately 8,400 students will be studying at the university, about 3,300 of whom are new students pursuing first, second and third (Ph.D.) degrees.

27 years after the establishment of IDC Herzliya, it is now opening its gates for a new academic year for the first time bearing the official status of a university – Reichman University.

This comes following the Council for Higher Education’s decision last August to adopt the sweeping recommendation of the special committee of experts it appointed to assess the issue. The committee recommended “unanimously and without reservation” that IDC Herzliya be recognized as a university, stating that “IDC Herzliya’s inclusion on the list of Israeli research universities will be an honor for the country and its system of higher education.”

With the recognition of IDC as a university and the change of its name to Reichman University, Prof. Uriel Reichman announced his decision to end his term as president. “For many years I worked to establish a unique university which trains the future leadership of the State of Israel,” he said. “I have fulfilled the mission I took upon myself, and the naming of the institution after me is the most beautiful recognition and reward for what has been the achievement of my lifetime.”

With the conclusion of his term as president, the university’s General Assembly elected Prof. Reichman as chairman of its Board of Directors, an unpaid position. Until a new president is appointed by the committee that has been set up to find one, he will be replaced by Prof. Rafi Melnick, Reichman University’s provost.
Reichman University opens the 2021-2022 school year with a full return to campus Over the past year, along with confronting the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, the university has invested in improving the campus and enriching the curricula in order to provide its students with an exceptional university experience. Alongside academic studies with the top lecturers in Israel, in state-of-the-art laboratories and research institutes, students will enjoy a diverse range of extracurricular activities in collaboration with external bodies and companies, and will take part in social initiatives to benefit the community.

CPA Shlomi Shuv, Head of the accounting program and Deputy Dean of the Arison School of Business"I would like to congratulate our graduates, who continue to take the lead among all the institutions of higher education at the national level. I found the council examination this year to be technical and simple, and not to demand a deep enough level of understanding and thought. Just to illustrate, although the exam was conducted in the midst of the COVID crisis, there wasn't even the slightest reference to it. I have no doubt that had the exam required deeper thinking and understanding, of the kind we teach our students, our lead would have been even more significant. Our true lead is reflected in the entrepreneurial spirit of our graduates and the extent to which they are 'pursued' in today's workforce."

This impact has not yet been studied extensively, systematically and in depth in Israeli or international academia, and for this reason the foundation recently published a call for research proposals on the subject.
Two leading researchers from Reichman University’s School of Psychology responded to the challenge and were awarded funding for the projects they proposed.

RRIS Student of the Month: Bella Honorine Masabo
Hi! My name is Bella Honorine Masabo and I am originally from Rwanda. I am a second year student in Government and sustainability at the Raphael Recanati International School. I chose to study at IDC because it is an international school and I was eager to learn from different students around the world. For the past two years, I made a lot of friends at IDC and had an amazing experience here in Israel. It is a good thing to be at a University like IDC where there is diversity and a lot of opportunities. I am glad that I belong to the IDC community.
