IDC Model United Nations Delegations took part in national conferences: ArMUN, hosted by Ariel University and COMASMUN, hosted by the College of Management Academic Studies and JLMUN hosted by Jerusalem UN. Outgoing IDC MUN President Ioana Alexandra Mogos (above), 2020-2021
said,"This year MUN at IDC featured a diverse group from the schools of Computer Science, Law, Business and Entrepreneurship from both the Israeli school and RRIS joined us. Students from Israel, USA, UK, Canada, South Africa and Europe decided to get out of their comfort zone and get into the roles of diplomats and ambassadors in the UN. Despite the challenging circumstances we had to deal with this year, IDCMUN proved once again that it has the most prepared delegates, trained by a team of professionals. From the recruitment process we tried to create a very diverse group that can come up with realistic solutions to the pressing issues of today." |

Meet the Sports People of IDC Herzliya and Hear their Stories
By: Tamara Mizroch
Being a sporting star is no doubt grueling, with little to no time to pursue other interests or passions. Somehow in between their busy schedules, these sportspeople are managing a degree at IDC Herzliya. According to Jonathan Davis, VP for External Relations and Head of the Raphael Recanati International School "We don't think you should have to choose between following your passion and giving yourself choices for your future. We believe that you can compete to the very best of your abilities in sport while investing in your future."
Ilan Kowalsky, head sport coach at IDC Herzliya says " IDC is a hub for Olympic and professional athletes who want to combine excellence in sports, and academia. The IDC athletes, who study in a variety of groundbreaking education programs combine their degree studies with their professional careers in sport. The IDC Sports Department works in collaboration with the Israel Olympic Committee and various sports associations and allows professional athletes to combine their professional careers in sports with academic studies - by tailoring the curriculum individually for each athlete, providing mental support, as well as building a schedule that works for them." |

Rewiring the Adult Brain-New Research by IDC
The adult brain is more malleable than previously thought, according to researchers from the Interdisciplinary Center Herzliya. They trained a 50-year-old man, blind from birth, to "see" by ear, and found that neural circuits in his brain formed so-called topographic maps - a type of brain organization previously thought to emerge only in infancy. This finding reported recently in
Neuroimage, sheds new light on the brain's ability for change and holds promise for helping people restore lost function, for example, after a stroke.
"The human brain is indeed more plastic during infancy, but it maintains an enormous potential for reprogramming throughout a person's life," says Prof. Amir Amedi, head of the Baruch Ivcher Institute for Brain, Cognition & Technology at IDC Herzliya, whose team conducted the study. |

IDC Alumni of the Month- Alhaji Fofana
My name is Alhaji Fofana from the Ivory Coast, and I am the CEO of the African Student Organization in Israel that I co-founded in 2015. In 2006, my wife, Fatmata Fofana, and I arrived in Israel where our children were born: Saliou, in 2010 and Lamin, in 2013. We are fluent in English, French, and Hebrew.
Since arriving here, I have steadily pursued my dreams of a higher education. I took an online course on Microsoft Office and computers (2008); a PC technician course (2010); a web design course (2011); a course on Microsoft servers (2012-2014); and was certified as a Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MSA). I have applied these studies to teach community members basic computer skills, PC technician courses, and repairing computers.
In 2015, I was awarded a scholarship to the IDC to study Communications (majors: Digital Marketing and Business Administration) and graduated with a BA, in 2018. That same year, I was awarded another scholarship to the IDC to study OBD (Organizational Behavior and Development) and graduated with an MA in July 2020. |
I was drawn to IDC’s diverse international student body and highly gifted and caring faculty. IDC strengths in training leaders have empowered me to enhance my team leadership and training skills and understandings. I have immediately applied this education in my work, incorporated it in my plans to open my own company, and provide for my country on my return." |

RRIS Student of the Month: Gal Balaban
My name is Gal Balaban and I'm from the lovely San Francisco Bay Area in California, where I lived the first 18 years of my life. Every summer I visited my family in Israel for at least a month, where my grandparents and cousins live and made us feel at home. In September, I officially moved here with my family to be closer to my extended family and a culture that has always welcomed me. I'm a first-year in Communications student and hope to pursue a career in the film industry, as movies have always been my passion. It's been a weird experience for me doing zoom class but on campus for my introduction to this school, including the ongoing transition back to normal, but I've met some wonderful people on the way and had some memorable experiences.
This new chapter of my life has been unpredictable and surreal but helped me challenge myself and continue to grow as a person." |
