Congratulations to IDC Herzliya's
outstanding researchers and lecturers
A festive toast led by IDC Herzliya Provost Prof. Rafi Melnick was held to honor IDC's outstanding researchers and lecturers. During the ceremony, Prof. Melnick congratulated the outstanding researchers, saying, "Research is one of the main roles taken on by a member of the faculty of an academic institution, and especially of a university. What makes an academic institution a university is the research carried out there, and it goes without saying that a top university requires exceptional, groundbreaking research. Excellence, and especially excellence in research, is comprised of many components, the combination of which yields excellence. These components include curiosity, creativity, innovation, perseverance, optimism, integrity, and effort. Excellence is not something that comes easy."

Macha_Tawil_2
This mission is part of the Israel Space Agency in the Ministry of Science and Technology’s extensive strategy to turn Israel into a world class space superpower, and to generate a local Eco-system of approximately 350 companies in the field of Civil Space, providing a livelihood to around 25 thousand employees, and being responsible for about 0.5 billion dollars in annual private investments in Israeli industry.
Prof. Yoav Yair’s experiment was selected to take part in the "Rakia Mission" and will be launched to the International Space Station in 2022. ILAN-ES aims to study electrical phenomena above thunderstorms, known as Transient Luminous Events: blue jets propagating from cloud tops to the stratosphere (~40 km), gigantic jets from clouds to the ionosphere (~ 90 km), and ELVES and red sprites initiated above tropospheric thunderstorms inside the mesosphere (50-90 km).

Anti-semitic Content on TikTok Increases by 912% - Study
Macha_Tawil_2
A recent study shows a 912% increase in anti-semitic content on TikTok. Led by Dr. Gabriel Weimann of the University of Haifa and Natalie Masri of IDC Herzliya’s Institute for Counter-Terrorism, the two found that the rapid increase consisted of both anti-semitic tropes, images and rhetoric.
The 912% refers to the number of anti-semitic comments which grew from 41 anti-semitic comments in 2020 to 415 in 2021. In terms of anti-semitic postings, the number grew from 43 posts in 2020 to 61 in 2021. TikTok’s content moderation policies are likely responsible for the stark difference between anti-semitic comments and anti-semitic postings, as the policies would likely flag the postings immediately.

IDC Alumni of the Month- Ronni Elad
I was looking for a degree that combines the two fields I find most interesting - people and business. I started exploring and this led me to IDC's OBD program.
My decision to join the international program, despite being Israeli, left an imprint on my career. I had the privilege of being exposed to, and learning from people from all over the world - each in a different setting, from a different organization, and a different background. In addition, I found that learning in English gave me a significant advantage in finding my first job in the field. Today, as VP of HR at a company with over 700 employees, I am fortunate that I get to use the tools I acquired during my degree. The program provided me with an approach to employee management that allows me to help the organization achieve its goals and objectives in the best way, while at the same time be a strategic partner.

The degree was experiential, enriching and dynamic. What made the experience so unique was knowing that we were interacting and learning from professors who are leaders in their fields. Looking back, this was a helping hand to where I am now and where I am going."
