Dear Friends,

Though it's -40 in my hometown of Chicago, the first buds of spring are starting to bloom here in Israel. We just celebrated Tu Bishvat and the TLV Secular Yeshiva's Bar Mitzvah with a special planting ceremony with Tel Aviv-Yafo Mayor Ron Huldai - and registration for our summer and fall programs is in full swing! If you know any Jewish young adults who want to spend a meaningful year with BINA
on BINA Gap Year in Tel Aviv or MITF Tel Aviv+ please send them our way! And if you're planning a summer trip to Israel and want to do a tour or workshop with BINA, let us know! Hope to see you soon in TLV!

Warm wishes,

Elliot Glassenberg,
Deputy of International Marketing and Content

Last week, on Tu Bishvat 5779, the BINA Secular Yeshiva in Tel Aviv celebrated its Bar Mitzvah. The staff, participants, partners and local school children gathered to mark 13 years of Jewish learning, social action and community building in south Tel Aviv.  The Mayor of Tel Aviv-Yafo, Ron Huldai, joined the celebrations and spoke about the important role BINA plays in strengthening Tel Aviv-Yafo's culture of diversity and pluralism that makes the city so special.
Campus News!
Brandeis Hornstein day at BINA
We had a full morning with students and faculty of the Hornstein Jewish Professional Leadership Program on their visit to BINA in Tel Aviv! We met with Israeli and international BINA participants to learn why they're spending a year learning and volunteering in south Tel Aviv. We studied Torah together, met with a Darfuri asylum seeker, and talked about what it means to be a Jewish state in 2019. And then we went for a tour of south Tel Aviv. This group joins a growing number of visitors to BINA, including: The Mandel Executive Leadership Program Fellows, the North California Rabbi's Mission of the JNF, Park Avenue Synagogue and the Metrowest Partnership.

Tel Aviv Secular Yeshiva Campus
We're delighted to announce that we have received a grant from the Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia's Real Estate affinity group (JFRE) to refurbish part of our BINA Tel Aviv campus! The grant will support a full renovation of the ground floor of the Main Building at our Tel Aviv campus, which will serve as a library, study space and classrooms - creating a space for our program participants, IDF soldiers, officers and other visitors to learn and hang out in! Thank you to the JFRE and the Jewish Federations of North America.

How do we repair the relationship between U.S. Jews and Israel? How do we create a new global Jewish conversation?

Ariel Levinson, co-director of BINA's Jerusalem Secular Yeshiva responds to Daniel Gordis in the Times of Israel and offers his own suggestions: "Young American Jews need to meet their Israeli counterparts... people who are similarly inquisitive about their Jewish identity in a changing world and jointly exploring their need for community and meaning..."
