Dear Friends,

It is customary, upon completion of studying a Tractate of Talmud or a Seder of Mishnah, to recite a prayer called "The Hadran". The Aramaic – used in contemporary Hebrew as well – has dual meaning: It is the term for "Glory" as well as the word for "Return" or "Encore!"
Although the school-year at BINA is in full-swing, we pause a moment to mark to transition from 2018 to 2019 with a nod to this tradition and to acknowledge what a glorious year it has been – a year of challenges alongside growth and momentum – and to say "Encore!" – onward to another successful year of studying Torah, doing social action and leading community building initiatives.

Thanks to all of you that are part of the BINA Jewish movement for social change. We can't do this with out your help. Please make your year-end tax-deductible donation to BINA now.

Hadran Alach. Glory will be upon you. TODA RABA.

Wishing you all a happy and healthy 2019,
Noga Brenner Samia and all the BINA family!

BINA pioneering programs in the US
image
The Oshman Family JCC (OFJCC) and BINA have joined together in a new pioneering partnership to develop Jewish culture programming in Palo Alto, CA. Our aim is to create Jewish programs that are compelling to Jews of all backgrounds and religious practices, exploring innovative ways to integrate Jewish traditions and values into contemporary life.

The OFJCC and BINA’s partnership will create a variety of programs that reflect the two organization’s values of social activism, Jewish learning and community building. The joint partnership is being hosted at the OFJCC, under the leadership of CEO Zack Bodner, and operated as the US branch of BINA's network of Secular Yeshivas, under the leadership of BINA's deputy director, Nir Braudo. The programs will be directed by OFJCC Director of Jewish Content, Tova Birnbaum, and run by Zoe Jick, whose position is a collaboration between the two organizations.

We thank Zack Bodner for believing in this partnership from its inception, the ICC@JCC (Israeli Cultural Connection) staff and leadership for opening the door to this wonderful community and to The Posen Foundation for its seed-support of the initiative. A special thanks to Daniel Posen, CEO of the Posen Foundation and Yael Nakhon-Harel, Director of the Posen foundation in Israel, for taking the time to travel with us to far-away Palo Alto for making this dream a reality.
For more information  contact Tova Birnbaum.

Peace vs mahloket (disagreement) - can one exist without the other? What can we learn from dysfunctional families in the bible - Abraham and Lot, Jacob and Esau, Joseph and his brothers? What is the importance of pursuing peace and the consequences of missing those opportunities?
