The 5X2 Initiative: Updating the Mission and welcoming a new director

Last June, the leadership team of the
5X2 Initiative convened for a day to discuss the initiative's mission. This, following the understanding that while the Initiative had attained its original goals of doubling the number of students studying for five units in mathematics as well as increasing the number of students in physics, chemistry and computer science - the mission and vision of the initiative have not yet been fully realized. New directions and challenges were highlighted, focusing on 21st century skills and computational thinking as key levers for change. It was also decided to place special emphasis on the geographical periphery and on special populations, both in high schools and middle schools.

Iifat Bernstein, who for the past two years has managed the initiative’s operations in the periphery, was recently appointed to the position of 5X2 Initiative Director.
Prior to that, she served as the project manager for the establishment of the National Civil Service Leadership Seminar, and served in various positions in the IDF training unit which she left with the rank of lieutenant colonel. We wish Iifat great success in meeting the new challenges she faces.

Endings and Beginnings in Government Participation Processes

We recently completed our work with two government offices, where we accompanied major participation processes in recent years:
The State Comptroller's Office and the Ombudsman, and the “Invest in Israel” unit in the Ministry of Economics.

At the same time, we were informed about winning two tenders that we had submitted to launch new participation processes: In the Ministry of Economics, we will accompany the work of the cross-sectoral Public Committee for Economic Advancement of Trade and Industry, which seeks to increase productivity in these branches; In the Ministry of Transport, we will lead a process aimed at formulating a national initiative to address the challenges posed by technological innovations in the automotive world and their impact on the transport professions.

These are both fascinating and complex processes that have significant economic and social implications, and we are delighted to have been selected to help advance them. Meanwhile, we continue to operate the participation processes of
the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Social Equality, and the Ministry of Health.

Our new Knowledge Platforms: The Studio and the Sheatuf-Yeda

The Studio for Collaborative Social Processes is designed for executives from all three sectors, process leaders, entrepreneurs, and social activists, and offers a variety of programs, lectures, and workshops in the world of collaborative social impact, using innovative learning methodologies.

Among the key topics studied: Collective Impact - Worldview and Model of Action; Collaborative Governance and Public Participation; Impact spheres – Collaborative Processes of the third Sector; System Change, Cross-Sector Society, Partnerships, and more.

The studio sessions and content are modularly structured and can be tailored to the challenges and needs of any organization or collaborative process.

In addition, we have recently launched the
Sheatuf-Yeda, a monthly newsletter, in Hebrew and in English, which aims to help executives and decision makers in the business, public and social sectors broaden their sphere of knowledge on issues relevant to collaborative action in the variety of forms and models.
