Shalom!

In this edition of Sheatuf-yeda we are happy to share two significant knowledge products recently published by Sheatufim. One is a first-of-its-kind toolbox that assists in establishing a municipal ecosystem to promote diverse social issues. The toolbox was built according to the principles of systemic thinking and the collective impact approach. It is based on our experience in the 5X2 Initiative that has been operating since 2013 to promote excellence in science education, and since 2017 accompanies the planning and establishment of Local Stem Ecosystems in three municipalities in Israel: Hura, Kiriat Gat and Beer Sheva.

The second is an article that was also written as part of our professional work on the 5X2 initiative. It examines the initiative through the prism of collaborative governance, with an emphasis on the mechanisms of building trust and cooperation. The article appears as a chapter in a book, recently published by Palgrave Macmillan, alongside chapters written by other researchers dealing with the subject of collaborative governance in Israel.

Wishing you an enjoyable and helpful read!

How to Build a Municipal Ecosystem

The Municipal Ecosystem Design Toolbox was written on the basis of the accumulated experience of the 5x2 Initiative team. It is intended for municipal managers, and anyone who wants to lead a municipal process on any issue. It gives a broad view of what is required to lead such a process, and includes practical tools and recommendations from the experience of others. The toolbox is built according to the four annual stages in the planning and establishment of a municipal ecosystem. For the online toolbox (in Hebrew) click here

The 5X2 Initiative as a Model of
Collaborative Governance

In the book "Collaborative Governance: Theory and Lessons from Israel", there is a chapter describing the 5X2 Initiative as a test case of collaborative governance. The story of the initiative is described along the timeline (2013-2017), with an emphasis on the process of building relationships and trust between the various players - a process that is a core foundation in advancing collaborative governance mechanisms and their ability to operate successfully. The chapter was written by Inbar Hurvitz and Dr. Michal Rom as part of a research group at the Van Leer Institute >> To the publisher’s website -  Palgrave Macmillan .

The Studio for Collaborative Social Processes

Last week we were happy present the "Toolbox for Designing Municipal Ecosystems" in a meeting of the "Community in a Changing Reality" program – a practical training for officials in the community space, led by the Community, Leadership and Inspiration Center of Oranim College, and to present the "Toolbox for Designing Municipal Ecosystems ".
In the meeting, we first spoke about basic concepts, distinguishing between cooperation, partnership and a collaborative process, and delved into the order of the planning stages and products from the first year. Finally, we shared the experience of interface mapping tools and stakeholder mapping tools.
