Hello!
Happy to share the fourth edition of the Sheatuf-yeda, focusing on the leadership and management of collaborative processes.
Any collaborative process, involving a variety of players from the public, social, and business sectors is, by its very nature, a complex one. Its success depends, among other things, on the ability of its leadership to create a broad partnership within the inter-organizational and interpersonal reality, and to face the ongoing challenges of building trust and reaching consensus among a wide range of stakeholders.
In initiatives like Collective Impact, the “Backbone Organization” is responsible for all of the above functions. In other collaborative processes such as public participation processes, this role will be filled by a facilitative body. Either way, it is a separate entity from all other stakeholders, whose role is to lead everyone towards the common goal.
We have chosen to focus on the Backbone Organization's point of view in its different phases, and to shine a spotlight on various aspects of its work. These are reflected in the story of "Hamerhav" presented below. "Hamerhav" is a unique third sector “impact sphere” of social organizations and social activists from the Ethiopian community in Israel. The story is written from the perspective of Sheatufim, the professional body that accompanied "hamerhav", and offers an initial understanding of the professional support of such a process.
You may also be inspired by the success of an on-going multi-sector collaborative process - The Inclusive Economy Partnership in the UK which implements a different action model that involves players from all sectors coming together to face social challenges. In their fascinating story, we can recognize a body similar in its role to the Backbone Organization, Nesta, which is entrusted with the task of leading and supporting the process.
